What are we doing wrong?


Yep, it's possible to go about your social media strategy all wrong. Are you having trouble attracting attention? No one is noticing what you are doing? Here's some reasons why:

1. You run your business acount like your personal account- In all honesty, no one cares about your cat photos on your personal social media pages but they deal with it because they love you (don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger) Think of your business account as a distant cousin to your social media, you should never simply "share" information from your personal page to your business page and only use content that's appealing to the audience!

2. Your posts are waaaaaaaaayyyyy toooooooooooo loooonggg- There are a lot of businesses that think they have to get all of the information about their business in one post. I'm here to tell you, you don't! Instead think of social media as either a snack, bite or lunch. Snacks are small previews (1 sentence) that makes the user want to learn more. Bites are two sentences or more that can lead the user back to your website or newsletter but it only gives again a small portion of information. Then there's lunch (notice I said lunch not dinner). Lunch can be tricky because you still need to give the information in as short of a way as possible but you tell the user the whole story in just one post.

3. You're too loud- There are social media accounts that push out way too much content, too often. If you have something special going on like a grand event or exciting news post more often but not too often. Good rule of thumb no more than about 3 Facebook posts and 10 tweets a day (unless you're live tweeting--We'll discuss that later).

4. You look like everyone else- Your brand needs to be unique, interesting and attention grabbing. Make your voice stand apart by doing things that only your company can do. Have you thought about what makes you stand apart from other companies? If so, use that and make sure your audience has to come back to just you for your info!

We've covered a lot, but this should be an eye opener to help you figure out what's right and what's wrong with your social media!
