What are you business goals for this year? Since I work for a nonprofit organization, our fiscal year begins July 1 of every year which means we are starting to think about the goals for the upcoming year. While it may be fairly easy to create goals for my role within my organization at work, I had to start thinking about how do I create goals for my business and how can I help other businesses create their goals as well.
Have you sat down and thought about what you want to accomplish for the year?
As a small business owner, there are so many distractions that can take you away from thinking about the overall vision for your company. Most days, you'll be busy fulfilling the "business" of your company such as fulfilling customer orders, hiring staff and rounding invoices, but there's rarely time to discuss the direction your company is going.
Just like every other part of your business, goal setting is essential in order to be successful. How can you inspire your stakeholders to invest in your product or work for you when you have no idea what you want to achieve and how you plan on doing so?
Here are a few simple tips to get the goal setting process started.
1. Evaluate what works currently and what can be improved.
2. Think bigger (bigger than revenue).
3. Estimate your current limitations and how to overcome them.
4. Share your visions with those who can provide reasonable feedback.
5. Write it all down.
If you created goals for your company at the beginning of the year, FANTASTIC! Take this time to re-evaluate those goals and how you can accomplish them before the year is out.
